The public authority on Thursday told the Lok Sabha that there is no proposition at present to allow established status to the Public Commission for Minorities.
In a composed reaction to an inquiry in the lower house by Congress pioneer Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Minority Undertakings Clergyman Smriti Irani said the Public Commission for Minorities (NCM) was laid out as a legal body with the sanctioning of the Public Commission for Minorities Act, 1992 by Parliament.
This Act came into force with impact from May 17, 1992, she said.
"Under segment 2 (c) of the said Act, the focal government has informed five strict networks to be specific, Buddhists, Christians, Muslims, Sikhs, and Zoroastrians (Parsis) as minority networks," she said.
